New Canadian Regulations
We have some new regulations in place for everyone to be aware of.
Animal grooming products are no longer regulated under the cosmetics regs unless the product is for use on [b]both[/] human and animal then they are covered under the act. If you are making a therapeutic claim on animal products you may need to be classified as a veterinary drug and subject the Food and Drug Regulations.
If you are making a product to assist in the control of fleas, ticks, mites or other pests, you need to file under the Pest Controls Act.
We have a one (1) year transition period to conform.
I personally do not see this will put that much pressure on our industry. We each need to look at what we are making for animal products and determine how it needs to be registered. I know that I personally have a new product in development that I have requested a review on with the Pest Control Department.
Cheers
